Day Nine - Manitoulin Island!

Rain gear, mist, blah, blah, blah!  You've heard it here before, no sense in repeating - except we did have a bit of added excitement this morning. Some thunder!. We tried waiting it out but in the end just had to go so we could make our stop for tonight. 

Not too far into the morning a very exciting event happened. Here's a picture, see if you can guess:

That's right, we passed through 4,000 km at this very point - half of our planned 8,000 km odyssey!

Not much to report until we turned south at Espanola for Manitoulin Island. It's big, in fact it's the biggest freshwater island in the world. It's very pretty - and pretty quiet, with little towns, farms, and...... well that's about it really.

Tonight we are at the Buckhorn Motel in South Baymouth run by a super couple, Cathy and Ameal. Rustic but clean is how they described it - and here is our room

We will definitely roll to the centre of the bed tonight!  Anyway, they are really helpful and let us use their hose and towels to clean up the bike once again. 

We dined at Earl's tonight. Just not the Earls you are thinking of, this is Carol and Earl's (but Carol is out of town).  According to Earl everything here is the best there is, meat, veg, pies - everything. I'm sure the coffee is too, but we didn't try it. 

Tomorrow we catch the ferry over to the Bruce Peninsula and a short ride down to Thornbury to see Julian's original friends in Canada. You need tie downs for the ferry - on a lake!  But it is bigger than many a sea!

And just like that we will be in southern Ontario - now the eastern cities are next on our agenda and the Maritimes are starting to seem possible.
