Day Fifteen - New Brunswick - that's where!

Edmundston to be precise.  We had some options for the route but decided to cut south into NB quickly so we could do Fredericton (tomorrow night) and Moncton on our way out.

And also (and I know we said we were going to lay off talking about the weather) because hey - tropical storm Andrea arrives here tomorrow, just the same time as us and we'd rather be holed up in a bigger city.  Really, a tropical storm?  Right now this feels about as far from the tropics as you can get!

We rode out along the south shore of the St. Lawrence this morning on 132 - a beautiful country road that winds it's way from one small town to another.  Such neat homes and properties, great small farms, it is quite a lovely place - BUT no coffee shops that we could find.  They must be heavily camouflaged because if ever a region cries out for something like that it is this one.

We were headed up to Rivière du Loup where the highway turns south for NB.  The St. Lawrence has widened out considerably at this point and has become tidal already. This is how it looks but it's really a lot prettier than this.

As we rode south to the NB border we were amazed at a road building project going on.  A huge highway expanding the existing road which is really the main point of connection for the Atlantic provinces with the rest of Canada.  It is a massive infrastructure project but where does the spending stop?  At the Quebec border - surprised?

And then:

We are staying at the Best Western which is the most bizarre blend of fantastically practical and well thought out accommodations mixed with decorating touches that defy imagination!  Note the statuary on the outside of what is otherwise a decent looking building, and the truly weird staircase inside up to the second level.  Love the suit of armour!
 Enough said.

By the way we lost another hour at the border, we are 4 hours behind BC now.

So batten down the hatches, looks like tomorrow will be a soaker!
